Hello, summer! Now the weather is finally heating up, it’s time to start thinking about outdoor entertaining. After all, it’s hot enough inside, so why bring in unwanted added heat with indoor cooking? Instead, take advantage of the sea breeze outside, put on some tunes and get set to entertain in style indoors. We’ve come up with some great ideas to get you started.

Keep it cool.
While the sea breeze does help to cool things off, you might not want to rely on that as your only source of outdoor air conditioning! If you have a sheltered outdoor space, consider installing a ceiling fan for additional air circulation. If this isn’t an option, grab some pedestal fans from inside.

The general area isn’t the only thing you’ll want to keep cool! Remember to have plenty of ice on hand to keep drinks cold, especially on very hot days. Warm beer is a no-no!

Choosing the right seating.
Sit-down dinners or something a little more casual? Whatever you’re a fan of, make sure you have seating to suit! For a more formal gathering, a traditional outdoor table and chairs setting is the way to go. More of the casual BBQ type? Then maybe consider outdoor lounge chairs, a sofa, or even bean bags (which can then be easily stored away for future use). Just make sure you have enough seats to go around!

Bug control.
Nobody wants a fun night out ruined by pesky mosquitoes! Make sure you stock up on plenty of citronella candles, bug spray and outdoor fogger to keep the pests at bay. If you’re out in the garden, consider having a few throw rugs around for guests to wrap around them to stop the mosquitoes biting! They’ll definitely thank you for it later.

Let there be light!
The last thing you want when you’re entertaining outdoors is for your guests to be eating in the dark. Add ambient lighting with solar lights in the garden, hanging lanterns or fairy lights. For direct lighting over dining and food preparation areas, opt for halogen down lights, and add a little ‘cosy’ flair with candles.
