Perth has an extremely unfair reputation for being ‘boring’, especially in winter! Well, we’re here to dispel that rumour with a list of fun activities you can enjoy, despite the gloomy weather.
With plenty of kids’ rides, live shows and entertainment, Kids Wonderland offers school holiday fun under the Big Top for kids aged 2 – 12.
Located just a 300m stroll from Stirling Train Station, it offers an exciting winter’s day out for the whole family. Kids Wonderland is on from Saturday 2nd July – Sunday 10th July. Visit Kids Wonderland website for more information.
City of Perth events
There are always plenty of different activities happening right in the heart of Perth City – and the best bit? Many of them are free! The best way to keep track of all the upcoming events is to visit the Visit Perth City website.
Join a book club
There’s nothing better than curling up inside with a good book when it’s pouring rain outside. If you’re a book lover, why not share your love of reading with others? Check your local libraries to see what book clubs are held there, or visit meetup.com.
Play board games
If you can’t face the thought of leaving your home, why not let your friends come to you? Dig out your collection of board games – Monopoly, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, Catan, Risk or even a good old-fashioned jigsaw puzzle – and spend a snuggly afternoon indoors away from the rain.
You’re already feeling the cold…so what’s a little ice? Though it sadly won’t ever be cold enough for some outdoor skating along the Swan River, Perth still offers a range of ice skating venues both north and south of the river. These include:
- Cockburn Ice Arena (south of the river) – (08) 9411 0300
- Xtreme Ice Arena (north of the river) – (08) 9344 4400
- Perth Ice Arena (north of the river) – (08) 9248 9060
A favourite with kids and adults alike, Scitech makes science and maths fun for the whole family! Plus, their Planetarium is a definite must-see for astronomy lovers. For opening times, prices and event information, make sure to check out their website.
So, you might not love water falling out of the sky, but that doesn’t mean you have to avoid it completely! Check out the range of native Australian sea creatures at AQWA, (Aquarium of WA). Located in Hillarys, you can spend the day exploring the huge aquarium before heading to the Boat Harbour for fish and chips. How good does that sound? Visit www.aqwa.com.au for more information.
Crystal Cave, Yanchep
In the stunning Yanchep National Park, you’ll find plenty of natural beauty, including Crystal Cave. Perfect for families, Crystal Cave is a little easier to tackle than the bigger caves down south, but still provides plenty of photo opportunities and ‘wow’ moments. For times and ticket information, visit the Explore Parks WA website.
Swan Valley Bus Tours
Nothing warms you up in winter quite like a delicious glass of red wine. And chocolate. You’ll find these two things (and many other treats) in the beautiful Swan Valley – so why not book a day tour with friends to check it out? For information on the tours available, visit swanvalley.com.au for information on tours available.
Ellington Jazz Club
This Saturday night, why not grab your coat and head down to the Ellington Jazz Club, where you can listen to some amazing jazz acts over drinks with friends. Visit www.ellingtonjazz.com.au to check out what’s happening.
But of course, we’ve saved the best ’till last… There’s always the option of grabbing coffees to go, bundling yourself up in the car and heading off to explore some of our stunning display homes in and around Perth this Winter!
With most of our display homes open Monday & Wednesday 2-5pm, Saturday & Public Holiday’s 1-5pm and Sundays 12noon-5pm, there has never been a better time to explore indoors!
These are just a few ideas to get you going – and we’d love to hear if you have any more great tips for fun winter’s day activities!
Head over to the Ventura Homes Facebook page to let us know how you keep busy on those cold winter days.
Until next time…
