What are the advantages of building a first home?
There are many great reasons to build your first home! Building instead of buying an established property will offer you much greater control over the design and layout of your home – allowing you to create the dwelling of your dreams. Additionally, it could also mean that you could qualify for up to $55K* in government grants and schemes including the First Home Owners grant, the HomeBuilder grant and the WA Building Bonus – that’s a huge boost to get you on your way to building your first home!
What is the First Home Owners Grant?
The WA First Home Owners grant is a once-off payment of $10,000 to help first time home buyers build their own home. Eligible applicants may also qualify for stamp duty concessions. Want to know more? Learn more here.
How much do I need as a deposit?
The amount you’ll need for your deposit will be totally dependent on the cost of your mortgage, your loan arrangements and your own personal circumstances. There are many different lending options out there to suit a range of different needs. Some lenders may let you borrow 90%-95% of the value of your new home. If you’re an eligible first home buyer you could even use the $10,000 First Home Owners grant as your deposit! If you want to avoid lenders mortgage insurance (LMI) then you can generally expect your financial institution to request a deposit of 20%.
