Urban in-fill. To build or not to build?
Across the country and especially here in Perth, WA, urban blocks are few and far between. Perth’s urban sprawl stretches over 150 kilometres along our coastline, with couples and families opting to build in new land estates in order to get into the market at an affordable price. At first glance this may appear to be the only option available, however, on closer inspection you will find there are many other options available to get you into the market without having to compromise on location and proximity to the CBD. Infill blocks are becoming more popular and have a number of advantages from lifestyle choices, financial benefits and less impact on the environment for those who chose to go down this path.
Infill blocks allow more people to reside within closer proximity to our already established urban areas and reinforce the land and housing opportunities closer to the CBD. A great proportion of infill blocks are rear strata lots, sometimes called a “Battleaxe Block”. The Rear Strata has come a long way in its time, designs are just as functional and stylish as those that fit traditional block sizes. It is all about using the available land to help you achieve the best outcome.
The increased interest in these kinds of building project may be soaring, however the process can seem complicated and more intricate than that of your traditional house and land packages offered in new estates. Though governments are loosening the reins on developments and allowing for more infill development to take place, there are still some red tape to be overcome during the process.
