Walking or Jogging
Walking around the banks of the Canning River is certainly one of the most popular and worthwhile things to do. The water is usually calm, the air with a light breeze, the smell of clean air with a touch of salty air off the river, paperbark trees and water reeds.
Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you’ll see a pod of dolphins chasing schools of fresh fish, cornering them on the banks. Large and small birds alike will swirl in the air and sometimes dive right in, attempting to get in on the feeding frenzy.
The Canning River is also a great place to take your dog for a walk or swim late on a summer afternoon and evening, or early in the morning.
Without a doubt the best way to experience the area in and around Waterford is by canoeing down the waters of the Canning River. Designated canoe launching facilities are provided at Mason’s Landing, Kent St Weir, Riverton Jetty Park and Woodloes Park.
There is plenty of cycle ways for enthusiasts and families alike to enjoy the great outdoors around Waterford. The area is close access to the Swan River, cycle paths to the city or head west through to Shelly, Rossymoyne, and onto Mt Pleasant and Applecross. Or take a trip up to Victoria Park and Burswood.

Waterford is home to, or very close to a number of great parks, including Centenery Park, home to some of Perth’s finest sports fields. George Burnett Park, with lots of walking tracks and picnic areas, including bush land at Goss Avenue .Bodkin Park is right by the river and Trinity College Playing Fields is also nearby.
Collier Park Golf Course is just two straight and narrow drives away and just down the river you can find ski zones.
